Our Halloween!

Lexy had a 55 lb. pumpkin. We thought it would have a lot of innerds, but it was mostly hollow. I tried scraping a face into my pumpkin...with a watermelon baller. I wasn't happy with it, but it was o.k. I think I mostly just ran out of time. Of course, I decorated the front porch with the animated Gypsy in the globe, bales of hay and pumpkins and spiders and webs. Our first trick or treater came around 5:30, and the last one, around 8:30. It was a cloudy evening with pending rain...which eventually fell in pounding rhythms across the Halloween night.

He's precious. I got to have lunch with my cousins at Cafe Rio one

Butternut squash army

My little butternuts did very well this year. It was fun to watch them grow and wait until they were ready to pick. They taste so good roasted with olive oil and kosher salt, yum.

National Cathedral Washington DC

I've wanted to visit the National Cathedral in Washington DC for a long time. It is huge and beautiful! It had such interesting architecture. I especially like the designs of differing themes on these posts outside one courtyard.

Our two grandbabies, Elinor and John

Lexy and I babysat one night this summer.
Elinor was riding her pedal-less bike, and Johnnie joined the ride in his stroller.

Lexy starts 8th grade

Lexy got up bright and early this morning, unlike me, well, I did get up early, but not bright or necessarily rested. It was one of those 4 hour sleeping nights and then awake the rest of the night....oh me. Well, she's started a new thing this year, that is, showering in the morning instead of at night, blow drying her hair, etc. What did she eat this morning? A bowl of cereal, a couple bites of peach, and a soft boiled egg. That ought to get her through until lunch time. I made her lunch--her favorite, a chicken sandwich (just slices of chicken on whole wheat bread with a touch of mayo, grapes, a cheese and cracker sandwich, and water. I think she'll do just fine today!
